A rare letter of blessing in the handwriting of the righteous Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Mertz addressed to his friend, Rabbi Shlomo Plesch from Vienna.
"The Almighty shall send a complete recovery to his sister… and the Almighty shall also send him a complete recovery soon… please inform us of his well-being and the well-being of his sister, may she live."

The renowned Tzadik, Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Mertz, (passed away 9th of Sivan, 5732), served the Almighty with self-sacrifice and was known as a righteous and holy man, and a great ascetic. He was revered and sanctified by the righteous of his generation. He was the Rabbi of the "Tola’at Yaakov" community in Williamsburg.
Born to his father, the righteous Rabbi Yoel Zussman Mertz and Nanash, his mother was the daughter of Rabbi Yaakov Frankfurter, Rabbi, and Rebbe in Kashau. He grew up and studied under his grandfather and received rabbinic ordination from the holy Rabbi Shaul Brach, Av Beit Din of Kashau. His wife, Rachel, and their five children were killed in sanctification of God’s name on the 29th of Sivan, 1944. During the war years, he fled with his father to Budapest, where they were among the few who remained with beards and sidelocks. After the war, he married the daughter of the righteous Rabbi Chaim Zilberman, a grandson of the holy Rebbi Naftali Hirtzke of Ratzfert, and moved to live in Vienna, Austria. 1947, he established the "Tola’at Yaakov" community in Williamsburg. He would distribute all the money he received to charity. Although he had followers and a community, he often traveled as a Hasid to the holy Rebbi of Satmar and the holy Rebbi of Skver, of blessed memory. He passed away during his father’s lifetime on the 9th of Sivan, 5732, and was buried in the Satmar Cemetery in New Jersey. After his passing, his father published his sefer Tiferet Yechezkel.
